The Run Strong Coaching Bob Graham Round Recce Days are led by Jack Oliver, an experienced fell runner who has completed the Bob Graham Round twice—once solo and unsupported in the winter for 2024 and once Supported in winter conditions again in 2022 with support He has also helped on over 15 rounds over the last 4 years. Jack’s deep understanding of the route and the physical and mental challenges it presents ensures that these are professional, well-organized, and highly valuable days out on the fells.

The Bob Graham Round is one of the most iconic challenges in the fell running world. Covering 42 fells, 66 miles, and over 27,000 feet of ascent, it’s a test of endurance, navigation, and grit.

A Recce Day is a targeted rehearsal covering one or more legs of the Bob Graham Round to familiarise you with the terrain, checkpoints, and pacing demands Rather than attempting the full 66-mile circuit in one push, you work through sections—guided by an expert like Jack Oliver of Run Strong Coaching—who provides local insight, safety briefings, and logistical support These days demystify complex navigation and help you learn critical route quirks before your 24-hour attempt

Recce Days offer four key benefits:

-Navigation mastery: You practice map-and-compass skills on each leg, reducing time lost to wrong turns 

-Pacing insight: By running sections at training pace, you learn realistic split times and leg durations to feed into your overall 24-hour schedule

-Terrain familiarity: You experience underfoot conditions—rocky ridges, grassy slopes, peaty bogs—under varying weather, so you know what to expect on race day

-Mental preparation: Spending consecutive days on similar terrain builds resilience and coping strategies for fatigue and changing conditions

When you book all participants will receive a full information booklet which will include:

  • GPX for the leg
  • Packing list 
  • Start time and meeting point. 

Whilst the day is about maximising time on the route rather beasting it around you will be expected to run, a good level of fitness is required.
